The Beginning

Hello everyone!

Since this is the first post, let me give you some background information.

First, I'm not a writer, so please excuse any mistakes, typos, or any other grammar mistakes. I'm here to tell my stories. Why? I'm a girl in FIRST and on an all-girls robotics team, which definitely is an experience (and maybe rant from time to time). Don't get me wrong, I love FRC and FIRST and this is my fourth year that I am doing it, but I haven't been able to find another blog that shares some of those same experiences. But I have to say, I got the idea of doing this blog because of http://lifeasrobotgirl.blogspot.com/. (Btw, they are great, especially college girl.)

Mimicking some of their blog, I'm going to stay anonymous. CX But here are some pieces of information, I'm a girl, a senior in high school, and I live in North America.

So, what's it like to be on an all-girls robotics team? Well, for one thing there are no boys, except for some of our mentors. Which, by the way, IS AWESOME. Honestly, in the media and society, girls have been and still are being steered away from pursuing the STEM fields. Being apart of a soley female team has made it possible for me to do tons of technical work. I say this because I have seen teams where the majority of the members, leaders, and technical workers are boys. I am no saying that all coed teams are like this, but it just makes me sad when I see that girls are being pushed away from doing technical work and forced into business jobs.

But being a part of an all-girls team isn't always bright and happy all the time. This is because of a thing called DRAMA, and lots of it. I'm sure there will be posts in the future covering the topic.

However, for right now, it's the off-season, which means it's OUTREACH TIME. And for some teams, summer classes, camps, projects, etc., but, for me, it's common app time.

Psst. To the young: Take those classes, go to those camps, and start some projects, it's a great time to do so.

Signing off until next time,

The FRC Girl
